Four Perfect Itineraries for Dublin

Trinity College Dublin

It’s decided, it will be Dublin for your next holidays. You like to travel but you don’t like when everything is not well planned ahead. We have planned four different itineraries depending on what you are into. Those four itineraries are different to each other, the only thing that doesn’t change is that we recommend you to stay at The Davenport hotel.

The urban adventurer

adventure

A major river that runs through Dublin is River Liffey that provides a great opportunity to discover the city by the water. We are not talking about regular cruises, we are talking about getting wet (a little) by hitting the river by kayak for a tour of Dublin’s landmarks and a glance under its most famous bridges with City kayaking. If you don’t want to go in the water the Dublin Bikes bike-share system is a good way to do some exercise and save money, at three euros for a three-day ticket.
You can also go hiking in the Dublin Mountains, situated less than an hour away from the city centre. You can find long and short-distance trails perfect for hiking, mountain biking and running.

The history buff

history museum

Your first stop should be Trinity College, the oldest university in Ireland founded in 1592, and go to the library to see the famous Book of Kells. This is a beautiful Latin manuscript written by Irish monks around 800 AD, you will find great hotels near Trinity College. After that head to Dublin Castle, a short walk away, in operation since 1204, this is a must see as it’s located where it all started. You need to see the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral which is one of the last buildings from the medieval period and is the largest cathedral in Ireland. This trip will make you thirsty, we recommend you to go to the Brazen Head known as the oldest pub in Ireland (dating back to 1198).

The foodie

food

Dublin is Ireland’s capital of gastronomy, you can experience more than pub food here. Do you want to experiment the full Irish breakfast? Then go to Avoca café, located on the top floor of the department store of the same name, it boasts a nice view over the city. Lunchtime is one of the best moment of the day, to make it even better try the curried batter fish and chips of Super Miss Sue, it’s slightly different from the classic one. To end the day on a good note, try the slow-cooked, 100 percent Irish meat at Bison BBQ, and you can even seat on a horse saddle. Are you more of a sweet lover? Drop by Queen of Tarts for dessert and enjoy their chocolate, pear and almond tart.

The culture-seeking family

family in london

The Little Museum of Dublin is a nice place to go with your kids because it guarantees an in-and-out tour time of 29 minutes, which is perfect if you don’t want to spend hours in museums. If you want your children to be free to run everywhere, then go to the 1,7500-acre Phoenix Park where there is a special section for kids. This is also where the Dublin zoo is with more than 400 rare animals and birds.
